Food fight
Good Saturday morning blog friends! Its a beautiful one here in KY, lots of sunshine and 60 degree temps 😉
For breakfast this morning, I felt like making a weekend treat, so I used up the rest of my Hodgson Mill pancake mix. I followed the directions exactly (I usually omit oil but I went for it this time, trying out my new Crisco Canola oil with Omega 3) and threw in some chocolate chips for good measure.
Served with some peanut butter and light syrup on top. Sadly, the syrup has HFCS but once its used up its gone. I cannot be a waster, I’m sorry. I also had some OJ fortified with calcium. Believe it or not, this is a cup. I measured it out in another glass and then poured it into the pretty one. It made me feel like I was drinking more than I was, plus it was visually pleasing.
So, in regards to the title of this post…
Last night at the grocery store, Josh and I severely disagreed over butter. We have tried several kinds including the Land O’Lakes whipped butter (best according to eBrand Aid), Smart Balance, Promise, and Kroger brand spreadable butter…all of which contain no trans fat or hidden trans fat. But he claims they all “taste like crap” and what he really wants is I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter. Meh. I don’t use it that much so I guess I shouldn’t care, but still.
Did you know that on the front of this container it claims “trans fat free” but you can clearly see in the ingredients that it contains hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated soybean oil! Ugh.
I know its not easy for someone who eats unhealthy stuff like my husband to go to eating like me, I don’t expect that. It took me 2 1/2 years to get to where I am today and I’ve only been working on him for a few weeks now. But if I can’t even get him to switch out his trans fat butter substitute, how in the heck am I going to get him to do anything else?
I just want to say, you ladies out there who’s husbands or boyfriends already eat healthy and even eat similarly to you, YOU ARE SO LUCKY. And I am so jealous! Its frustrating when you want to help someone but they are so unwilling to compromise. Thank goodness I have enough control over myself that his behaviors aren’t triggers for me.
I however, caved as I usually do, and decided he could use that nasty stuff, if he gave up the Fruity Pebbles (which also have hydrogenated crap). I swear, its like living with a child sometimes 😉
Speaking of children, I had a good time reading blogs while eating this morning, including the latest in Sarah’s household. Those girls are the cutest ever!
I’m off to do a quick yoga session and get ready before an orientation meeting I have to go to…we are signing my dog up to be “therapy” for people in nursing homes. We’ve often called her the anti-depressant dog because she just has that effect on people 😉 Here’s a cute pic of my sweet Suzie:

Sorry about the butter fight! I don’t really like the taste of it so I let my parents buy what they want 😦

Sorry about your husband. I know his health means a lot to you, but if he is going to eat crap, he is going to eat crap. Personally, I think he should want to change and you shouldn’t force him to do something he’s not comfortable with. Perhaps just setting an example would be wiser; he will follow if you just give him time to adjust.
Matt, you are so right. I’m going to take a step back for now. He had asked me to “help” him but if he’s not ready to change, its not going to work. He does do a lot of things right its just all the little things like this that drive me crazy, haha.

omg, i can sooo relate to being in a relationship with someone who doesn’t eat healthy! my boyfriend lives off of a diet of pepsi, macaroni and potato chips (plus he doesn’t gain weight ever!) It’s so frustrating to have to buy all the different varieties of stuff so we’re both happy (brown & white rice, whole wheat and white bread, whole wheat and regular pasta), not to mention EXPENSIVE. I am so jealous of the girls on here that have hubbies or b/fs that will eat healthy!
I’m so glad there is someone else! Haha. I don’t give my husband enough credit, he gave up soda and does mostly whole wheat stuff now but that took me three years. I just need to have more patience with the rest 🙂
Lucky me. Mine eats whatever I cook. I feel for you though we have a nine year old who wants nothing but frozen pizza and chicken nuggets.
