I set my alarm to get up 15 minutes early this morning, so I could do some yoga! I took a page out of Angie’s book and decided to use a print guide from Yoga Download as my base and then did my own flow. It was great!
I used the Morning Flow #1 program and did each move on the pages for a count of 5 breaths. It took me about 25 minutes to get through it all and I felt awesome (and very hungry) when I was done.
This is apparently what I look like at 5:45 am!
I had also used my cable box to find a “Meditation” music channel to set the mood. So much better than listening to a computer talk at me.
Suzie kept getting in the way and head-butting me when I was in down dog. She’s so cute though!
We’ve had Suzie for one year as of today. I can’t believe it’s been a year already, she really is the love of our lives and a testament to how a dog, rescued from a shelter, supposedly with training problems and anxiety, can really thrive and overcome it all. All dogs need is your love, patience and a routine. Even though we have given her a better life, she has truly been the one who has made our lives better.
This was her just 1 year ago, look how scared she was 😦
It was also neat to look back at my blog from a year ago. My pictures were terrible! And I was also attempting the South Beach Diet again, eating lots of sugar free pudding, ick. So glad those days are over 🙂
After my morning yoga flow, I toasted up some Great Harvest cinnamon chip bread for breakfast.
I chose almond butter and blueberry fruit spread this time, just to change things up a bit 😉
I still have a ton of apples left to use, so I think some baking is in my future. Anyone have any good vegan recipes that involve apples?
Happy Wednesday 🙂
I just realized how funny it is that yesterday I got my blood work and everything done and today Suzie got hers (and some shots, which I thankfully did not have to do)!
Of course, she did great and everything is perfect. She’s a happy healthy doggie, I’m so lucky 🙂
When we got home from the vet, Suzie took a nap and I snacked on some peanuts.
I decided that since I already have the day off, I might as well run some errands today that I usually do on Saturdays. Which means grocery shopping time!
I ended up going to Meijer and Kroger because Meijer had some great sales going on and Kroger is just right down the street so I saved some gas.
I kind of chuckled a bit at Meijer because they played the “X Files” theme song and music from “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” I can’t believe tomorrow is Halloween, it really snuck up on me this year.
Anyway, I got all this stuff for $50!
Lots of new stuff to try this week, I can’t wait. Kept Josh’s stuff in the picture just for fun 😉 Don’t you love how I sat the ground beef on top of the tofu? Ha ha.
When I got everything put away, I was majorly hungry so I heated up my leftovers for lunch, which was the exact same meal I had for dinner last night.
I took Suzie for a short walk and checked the mail where I found this awesome package from my favorite vegan, Carrie 🙂
I m so excited to try some vegan-friendly beauty products, especially that soap because now I can stop using Josh’s. Oops!
I feel laundry dishes a nap coming on, so I’m going to sign off for now. Hoping to find somewhere good for Josh and me to have dinner tonight that won’t break the bank.
Don’t forget to enter my awesome coupon giveaway before next Friday!
Have an awesome Friday!
Well, I think we can almost officially call this Fall now! The leaves are turning, the weather is cooler (at least in the morning and evening hours), Starbucks have Pumpkin Spice lattes back…IT IS FALL!!
I’m so excited because I think this is becoming my favorite time of year. Unfortunately, I’m not a big fan of winter but perhaps I can be creative this year and find a way to enjoy that season more too 😉
So, where to begin! Oh yeah, let’s start with how Friday went down…
Breakfast was plain oat bran with banana and almond butter. The jar is almost empty so you know what that means…oats in a jar soon!
Then mid morning I snacked on more banana and PB after a 15 minute walk (this was half, the banana from this morning was huge):
For lunch, I had one of my favorite vegan convenience meals!
I don’t want to become dependent on these but it got me through this time 😉
YUM! Just as good the second time around…
After lunch digested, I went to the gym for a 40 minute treadmill workout with Farrah. We did walking and running intervals until we reached 3 miles…went something like this – 5 min walking warm up (2.5 mph), Run 5 minutes (5.5 mph), Walk 2.5 minutes (3.8 mph) – repeat run/walk sequence 4 times – cool down walking for 5 minutes. In the run sequences I did 6.0 for the last minute a few times.
It was awesome! I felt like I could’ve pushed it more but I didn’t because I want to honor my body and not reach those limits as I’m not a competitive athlete or anything. My body thanked me by not being sore and I wasn’t too tired either.
Snacks were some REAL dark chocolate (no milkfat in this piece):
I had mine over some rice with garlic naan on the side. I think this dish was vegan, no? It was just peas, eggplant and sauce I think. Geez, it was so good. I ate most of it, but not all.
Even though I felt pregnant (with a food baby) for the next couple of hours, I still managed to eat a serving of ice cream (not vegan trying to use it up):
Then we watched a couple of bad movies (The Mummy Dragon Emperor something or other, dumb and Valkyrie which wasn’t too bad actually) and I snacked on two sheets of graham crackers (these need to leave my house like now) and a couple of marshmallows.
Then I had some tea and went to bed 🙂 Zzzzz…
For breakfast, I had two very non-vegan Eggo waffles with PB and banana. I decided to have fun and make a waffle-wich!
On a Pokemon plate no less. Haha. Close up of the yummy goodness…
On the way to meet my mom for a nice walk at the park with Suzie, I grabbed a tall soy latte from the ‘Bucks. It was tasty…I think there soy latte feels like a treat even though it’s fairly low in calories! I resisted the pumpkin spice latte for now 😉
At the park, we walked around the track twice which is about 2.4 miles, plus walking to and from the car, we got a good workout in! So did my silly dog.
For lunch, we went to Mimi’s Cafe, which is easily my favorite restaurant. While perusing the menu though, I couldn’t help but think how hard it would be for a vegan to eat there.
I ended up getting the veggie burger with fresh fruit. I only used half the bun as it was huge and not even close to whole grain.
This was pretty good and definitely filled me up. But I can’t eat veggie burgers all the time…
I think I might write to the company…not to complain, but just to find out their suggestions for vegan menu options. Other that a garden salad with no dressing…that’s what I’m finding on the websites out there – that’s not a meal!
I also had some delicious unsweetened raspberry tea 🙂
Before I went grocery shopping, I popped a piece of real dark chocolate. Now that I am back home, I’m thinking it is time for a nap. I’m going out with some girls to Ramsi’s tonight…I see falafel in my future…and it is beautious!
Have a great day friends!
It never fails that when we have a late night out, the dog still decides to get up earlier than I would have even if I hadn’t been out all night! We got home around 2:30 this morning and Suzie thought it was time to go out at 7, even though I took her for a quick walk when we got home, ugh. But I love her…I mean, look how cute she is 🙂
Yeah, she’s taking a nap right now. I’m making coffee!
Updated to add: I feel like such a jerk for writing about how cute my dog is now that I’ve read of Meghann’s loss. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. My heart is breaking for her, I can’t imagine…
I ended up having breakfast for dinner last night because it as the only thing on my mind. I thought long and hard about veggies, hummus and other things I could make but nothing else would do.
Sometimes you just gotta go with what you are feeling! Plus some chocolate chips thrown in for good measure 😉
Last night, we went out to a small bar to see our friend Chad’s band and it was great. It took a medium coffee with skim milk to get me there but once it got going, I didn’t even notice how late it was. I also had a glass of Chardonnay while I was there. I’ve decided wine is the only thing I really like to drink, so when I want something and it is available, it’s great.
I wore more eye make up last night than I have in YEARS (if ever)…
Since I had my normal breakfast for dinner last night, I decided to switch it up for breakfast this morning. I made an omelet with 2 eggs and red pepper, mushrooms and green pepper, topped with 2% cheese and a squirt of organic ketchup. Two slices of whole wheat toast made this meal complete.
The coffee is done percolating…hope you all have a lovely Sunday!
p.s. It was probably totally wrong of me, but while I was grocery shopping yesterday I saw a box of Coffee Mate creamers and on the front of the box it says “0 grams of trans fat” but when you turn the box over, you see “Partially Hydrogenated Oil” high up on the ingredients list — which I knew already but I had never noticed the labeling on the front — I had a pen in my hand since I was checking things off my list and decided to write “lies” right on the front of the box. Crap like that drives me crazy…they are taking advantage of people.
I got Suzie a new sweater over the weekend because it’s been so cold. It took me forever to get her to stand still for a picture and it’s not a great one, but here she is 🙂 (That’s for you, K!)
When I got home, we went grocery shopping and then came back and ate some lunch. I had a whole wheat English muffin smeared with Mighty Maple PB and topped with 1/2 a medium banana sliced. I also had some tortilla chips & salsa as a side.
I also got a nice roll which I heated and spread with Smart Balance back at home 🙂
Later on for dessert, I had some more tofu chocolate pudding, which I split with my friend, all gone now!
These little cars have been staring at me for a while (my husband is a big Stewart fan) and I had to know what they were so I tried one…turns out they are chocolate cars filled with peanut butter, uh oh!
I stayed up really late and still wasn’t feeling too hot so I took another pain pill and ate some nuts as a snack…I got these at the mall, they are a mixture of almonds, pecans and cashews, covered in cinnamon sugar. They aren’t the best, but man were they good!
Yesterday was an amazing day! Not only did we elect the next President of the United States, but my husband and I adopted a new member of our family….a 3-year-old beagle named Suzie! We will always remember the day we got her now 🙂
We got up to vote in the morning and before we left, I had the other 1/2 of my Pumpkin Pie Clif bar, a tall glass of water and a multi-vitamin.
They weren’t that busy but they were short-staffed and our service was not great. But we were patient, we had the day off, so we just took our time and waited. We ended up getting our meal for free though! I felt bad because we didn’t have any cash to leave a tip 😦
We filled out a survey, went through the dog rooms and looked at a few dogs. One puppy was really cute but when we got her out she had no interest in us whatsoever. Then we walked down another aisle and this little beagle got up and poked her nose out at us. We took her out of the cage and played with her a little bit to see what she was like. You know how they say dogs pick their owners? Ha, Suzie definitely picked us. We were not leaving there without her! So now we are a family of three and couldn’t be happier 🙂
We were gone ALL DAY getting our dog and supplies, so by the time I got home, I was STARVING with a capital S, so I made a PB&J on whole wheat (using real cherry preserves instead of jelly) and it was heaven!
Then I had some mixed nuts as a snack before dinner…
Dinner was a nice thick pork chop and a huge side of broccoli. I added some mustard to my plate after I took this pic 😉
Dessert, as usual, my favorite sugar free chocolate pudding with light whipped topping 🙂
Since we stayed up later to watch all the Election coverage, I ended up having a nighttime snack of a gala apple and 1 tbsp peanut butter.
