Hummus goes with everything

Hello there! Hope Tuesday treated you all well ๐Ÿ˜‰

This morning, I had what is slowly becoming my โ€œusualโ€โ€ฆ oats with banana and PB!

Only this time, I cut the portions back just a bit. I used 1/3 cup of oats, 1/3 cup of milk and 1/6 cup of water instead of the usual 1/2 cup measurements. I noticed today that I was just as full with this much as I was with more, so itโ€™s good to know that I actually require less than I think I do.

When I got to work, I had a cup of coffee with some International Delight french vanilla creamer (one of the only kinds without trans fat). I managed to hold off a mid-morning snack until 11:30!

I think this breakfast is the power combo for me. I had a mini Larabar to hold me over through my workout and until lunch. I only have one left from a race I did back in March! Took me forever to get through them ๐Ÿ˜‰

Our workout today was lots of weight lifting and strength training: chest presses, bicep curls, push ups, abs, flyes, preacher curls, squats, pliesโ€ฆthatโ€™s all I can recall. We also warmed up on the treadmill for 5 minutes and then stayed on for 10 after our circuits were finished. I say โ€œourโ€ because I work out with my friend Farrah (who is a trainer) nearly every day.

For lunch, I had a big salad (or Hugh Jass as some of you say) with romaine, cucumber, chickpeas and hummus. I have decided today that hummus pretty much goes with everything. It even works as a salad dressing!

Oh yeah, a carrot snuck in there too! Whoever said that when you start eating real carrots you never go back (as in to mini or baby carrots) they were totally right! I canโ€™t even imagine those things now.

For my afternoon snack, I had another cup of coffee (eek) and some mixed nuts. Iโ€™ve noticed that I need to do protein snacks more in the afternoons because that is when I need it the most.

Dinner was leftover pizza from last night, yay! I also cooked up some cauliflower to get even more veggies in my life ๐Ÿ™‚

After our dinner settled, we went to play volleyball, which I havenโ€™t done in what seems like months. We used to play weekly, but Tuesdays had just become busy for us and in the Fall for me they will again as I am taking a class. But it was nice to play tonight, Iโ€™m definitely feeling it and burned a few more calories ๐Ÿ˜‰

I just ate two squares of dark chocolate and Iโ€™m just about ready for bed. Have a good night, see you all tomorrow! Itโ€™s girls night potluck tomorrow, I canโ€™t wait ๐Ÿ™‚

Half done

Well, I got that list about half done yesterday! No packing stuff and no yoga. I did end up getting out for a walk at work and then walked the dog when I got home. She really enjoys the warmer weather as do I. Sadly, it’s left us. Right now, we’re hovering in the mid-40’s, which isn’t too bad but after that big tease yesterday it’s slightly disappointing.

For dinner, I made chicken breasts, and I had a salad (romaine, tomatoes, cucumber, turkey bacon bits, parm cheese, balsamic vin) on the side (note: salads are better as a side, for me), and a mini-bagel with Parkay spray butter (probably not the best, artificial). I had some dijon mustard on the side, which I’m totally using if I get a cold anytime soon, it was HOT. Love it. I ended up only eating half the chicken because it was rather large, so I have the other half for lunch another day.


We had the windows open all over the apartment yesterday, it was so lovely…I even took a little cat dog nap before volleyball.


Backtracking a bit, sorry for the randomness. Here’s lunch!


PB&J on whole wheat, brussels sprouts, Annie’s cheddar bunnies, red apple ๐Ÿ™‚ This lunch lasted me nearly 5 hours!

Then I had this beauty…



These Oikos yogurts are sort of expensive ($1.99) but I swear, I am in love! This is the blueberry flavor and it rocked my socks. And held me through until dinner, which is always a good thing, especially considering it was just yogurt and nothing was added to it. Gotta love that greek yogurt protein!

I want to fly back to the store and buy 100 of these but they are a little steep; going to have to wait until next payday to splurge on yogurt at Whole Foods again. Don’t worry, I still have several in my fridge, just different brands. I โค yogurt, don’t you?

After dinner, I laid down for a bit (I was, yawn, tired) and then we suited up and headed to volleyball. Only to poop out after an hour and 20 minutes. So we left early, us old people, haha. I still feel pretty good, I got a 2 mile run in the morning, a few short walks in over the course of the day, and then just over an hour of volleyball. Plus I walked the doggie again when I got home, she was a happy camper ๐Ÿ™‚

When we got home, I watched The Biggest Loser and snacked on some grapies.

Then later, I actually got hungry, so I had a small cup of honey nut cheerios with 1 tbsp cinnamon raisin PB.


Which turned into another small cup with skim milk!

I don’t know why I’ve been snacky this week but I’m thinking its the hormone fluctuation. Hopefully it’ll even out again soon. I think the cup with milk was not necessary, I could’ve had some tea, but I was HOT so I need another backup plan for when it gets warmer. Unless we have the A/C on too high and I’m cold, haha.

Boy, wasn’t the show emotional last night?ย  I’m glad Mandi took charge and made the decision for herself, she seemed to just go along with everybody else for so long. And she’s obviously doing well at home!

I’m starting to get so annoyed by the fake product placement. Like “Oh, by the way, here are these Fiber One bars….” lame. But I know they have to support their sponsors. But still, be real. I have no idea who is going to win at this point, but I think I’m rooting for Kristen. She and her mom are awesome.

I hated that the black team won the weigh in even after their huge splurge. See, that is why I worry about them going home, so many temptations that they aren’t even aware of. But hopefully they all got a wake up call this week when they saw the numbers on the scale.

Easy peasy

I got a late start this morning so I lost about 15 mintues of workout time, but I still hit the gym early this morning! My husband is sick with a cold and kept waking me up in the middle of the night making weird noises because he can’t breathe, and coughing, so I decided to go finish sleeping on the couch (with the dog)ย around 2 a.m.! It’s not his fault though, poor guy…but that’s why I needed an extra 15 minutes ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve been making sure to get enough rest, keep my hands super clean and I’ve been taking a dose of Vitamin C in the mornings, in hopes that I don’t catch whatever he’s got!!

At the gym, I warmed up with 15 minutes on the elliptical trainer, levels 6-8 (started at 6, went up to 7 at 5 minutes, then up to 8 at 10 minutes). I went a total ofย 1.4 miles and burned 162 calories according to the machine. After that I did some quick upper body weights:

– Lateral pulldown machine, 50 lbs, 2×12

– Bicep curls (dumbbells), 10 lbs, 1×12; 12.5 lbs, 1×12

– Tricep extensions (1 dumbbell), 10 lbs, 1×12; 12.5 lbs, 1×12

I did all of that in about 30 minutes total, so it was a quick workout, but every little bit counts! It’s 30 minutes I wouldn’t have done if I’d slept in ๐Ÿ™‚











I’m planning on taking a couple of short walks today because I think this is the one and only day this week we’ll be in the 50’s before it gets really cold again (I really hate winter!) and then I’m playing volleyball tonight…hooray for activity!

Snack – Starbuck’s grande mocha lite frappuccino that I drank while enjoying the MMA section of Barnes & Noble!

A few supplements I took from at my parents’ house while I was waiting for them to get home…Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Calcium+Magnesium…
A Lindor truffle that I think had caramel in it, this was so good! Glad I only had one though ๐Ÿ˜‰

This is the soup I made for dinner…this was way better than the zesty Chicken Gumbo, which I think is because that one had less sodium, but neither one had enough chicken and were really watery….I probably won’t buy them again unless on sale + coupon as was this case.

A toasted Arnold sandwich thin with melted mozzarella cheese…mmm….

Went and played volleyball for two hours but didn’t get to play the entire time because we had three teams of five so we rotated in and out. I was sort of disappointed because I usually get a better workout but oh well, maybe next time!

When I got home, I had a series of snacks/desserts, unfortunately. I think it’s time for my monthly hormones to challenge me, which might explain this…

#1- Silk Chocolate soymilk

#2 – Honey roasted peanuts, 1/4 cup

#3 – Oatmeal squares (1/2 cup) + chocolate hazelnut spread

Tuesday before Christmas (so far)

Tuesday’s breakfast was chocolately-banana-PB oats. I cooked 1/2 cup oats with 1/2 cup soymilk and added 1/4 tbsp unsweetened cooca powder, then I sliced a medium banana and added half to the bowl and topped it with a tbsp of peanut butter.

I had a doctor’s appointment that morning so afterward, I treated myself to a tall nonfat peppermint mocha twist from Starbucks (gotta love gift cards!)…

For lunch, I had a small side salad with romaine, cucumbers, parmesan and 1 tbsp light ranch and a veggie burger with laughing cow cheese & ketchup on Arnold double fiber bread.

Dessert was a small piece of pumpkin bread.

Dinner was a can of vegetarian chili and a slice of bread toasted with a mozzarella cheese stick melted on top, YUM!

I found myself wanting something sweet after dinner, so I had another Adora calcium supplement!

After dinner, we went and played volleyball for another 2.5 hours! These past couple of weeks have been intense, but again I was glad to get some exercise in. I also did some shopping during the day so I’m sure that counts too ๐Ÿ˜‰

At v-ball one of our friends gave us a little ziploc bag of her version of “Reindeer Chow” uh oh…this one was different, it had some sort of peanut butter cereal in it and did not have m&m’s, but I liked it just as much as the other! I ate all of it, thank goodness it was just that one bag.

Feeling that pride

Yesterday was such a good day and I know it’s because I have my head in the right place. I felt powerful, energetic and healthy. I also had an amazing sense of pride when reflecting back and realizing how far I’ve really come. It’s a constant, almost daily struggle to shed past habits and situations that got me to where I was in my previous, unhealthy life. No one ever told me the battle does not end when you lose weight.

When January rolls around, it will have been 2 years since I started this whole journey; it took me almost a year to lose 70 lbs and now it’s been almost a year that I’ve maintained most of that. Sometimes it seems longer, sometimes it seems like I just started yesterday. It’s been amazing all around though. Okay, moving on…

Lunch yesterday was leftover chicken barbecue on a wheat bun with leftover veggies — this is basically the same thing I had for dinner last night + a new diet pomegranate 7-up, which was pretty amazing!

And now for what took the place of oreos, haha. Chocolate flavored hard candy saves the day! I also had a butter ‘n cream one too and a cinnamon before I left work. So three total. Better than three oreos though, right?!

I also had a second cup of coffee with a splash of skim milk a while after lunch.

Mid-afternoon, I had a snack of Chobani peach yogurt, round 2. I like the chunks of real peaches and this held me pretty well thanks to being high in protein!

When I was making dinner, I wasn’t too excited about it but this ended up tasting so good and it filled me up but not so much that I was uncomfortable playing volleyball!

Close-up of the burger…I think the bun made this meal! They are a little high in calories because of their size but I’m just trying to use them up…but they are pretty awesome tasting too.

We played volleyball and we also managed to stay the entire 2 hours this week! I was so proud of myself. I stayed up and watched The Biggest Loser on the DVR and heated up a little bit of Courtney’s apple marshmallow crisp for dessert/snack:

I had a hard time getting off the couch and making it up to bed too, I was worn out! But it’s such a good feeling. I’m so glad I went this week, I should try to remember this feeling when I think about not going ๐Ÿ˜‰

Just another Tuesday

Sorry I’m a bit behind this week! Just a regular Tuesday, from what I remember ๐Ÿ™‚

Made an iced coffee with leftover hot coffee from Monday night (stored in fridge overnight)…with 1/2 cup soymilk and about 1 tsp of honey…

Breakfast was iced coffee with an English muffin with 1 tbsp peanut butter and a banana sliced on top! Oh yeah and some turkey sausage, hehe…

Mid-morning snack was a decaf coffee with Silk creamer and a Banana nut bread Clif bar..this one very much tasted like banana bread, which got me to thinking, why didn’t I just eat banana nut bread instead, hahaha…but very good fuel and high protein!

Went for a run, almost 30 minutes straight! We only stopped to walk once for 3-4 minutes. I was tired and got nice and sweaty but it felt great.

Lunch was leftover chicken ‘n dumplins from Monday, some broccoli, a corn muffin, and a nice iced tea from Starbucks (so good, I haven’t really had it before, just plain black tea)!

I finished the broccoli, only ate half the muffin and ate all but two big chunks of the dumplins. I was impressed with myself, I stopped eating when I was full. I’m one of those people that usually finishes everything but I didn’t this time ๐Ÿ™‚

Except the tea, I got every last drop! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Eating lunch later in the day has held me so well, I usually don’t need a snack until much later, sometimes not until right before I leave work for the day!

Peach and peach soy yogurt…very peachy!

For dinner, I started with a nice romaine salad with grape tomatoes, pecans, sunflower kernels and some Newman’s Own Balsamic mist.

Small portion (just shy of 1 cup) of whole grain pasta with 1/4 cup Emeril’s sauce and two turkey sausage links (for protein)…

Volleyball was intense! We played for two hours but I felt like I was out of breath most of the time and did a lot of running around, so I know I got a good workout.

When I got home, I made myself a small bowl of Kashi cereal with soymilk. I put my hand next to the bowl to show you the proper size, I didn’t think you could tell just by the picture sometimes.

Two days worth

Hey folks, sorry for the delay! I took off yesterday to tend to my apartment and we finally got our power back on yesterday afternoon, hooray ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s so good to be back home and have a working fridge and washer/dryer again….the things we take for granted!

Staying with my parents was fun but the food situation was challenging at times (i.e. chocolate chip cookies). But I hung in there and don’t feel badly about anything. So here it is:


Breakfast: 1 cup Total cereal + 1 sample Fiber One; 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla soymilk

Morning snack: Organic Naturebar and large banana

Before lunch, I attended a Pilates class…while I didn’t really break a sweat, I was amazed at the intense muscle action I experienced in the class. Especially the abs, hips and thighs. I would definitely try it again ๐Ÿ™‚

Lunch was a white (sad face) English muffin with PB&J, leftover lentils and an orange.

Afternoon snack: hot gingerbread tea, Wasa crackers with veggie cheese slices

I was craving something sweet (surprise surprise) and I found this ‘sample’ of Werther’s original Caramel-dark chocolate candy. I quickly glanced at the ingredients and didn’t see anything too evil, so I got it. This package contains 3 pieces for 120 calories…I only ate one! And I loved it…very creamy and rich, plus you could really taste the caramel infused in it. One piece really was enough ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dinner – Salad with real bacon bits and Raspberry Cabernet dressing…

And lasagna..this did not sit too well with me, literally and figuratively, but we were sort of at it’s mercy with no power and being re-located and all.

Dessert – a serving of light Pumpkin ice cream and 1/2 serving of chocolate graham Goldfish (whole grain!)


Breakfast – Oat bran made with 1/2 soymilk and 1/2 water; 1/2 sliced banana and 1 tbsp of Dark Chocolate Dreams PB (aka the best stuff ever invented)

Mid-morning/early afternoon, I had a Kashi Pumpkin Spice Flax bar while I was cleaning the refrigerator and apartment, then the power came back on, woo hoo!

Lunch: 1 package of chunk light tuna with mustard on whole wheat, orange.

Then came the adventure! I went to Target and Kroger yesterday trying to find stuff for groceries and such, both places were completely wiped out of anything refrigerated or frozen! It was so weird to see stores this way, this was quite a storm for our city.

While at Target (which has a Starbucks, hehe), I had a grande mocha light frappuccino:

After 2+ hours of shopping, I came home with tired feet, so I sat down for a while, then I felt a rumble, so I snacked on some peanuts about an hour and a half before I started making dinner.

This was so cool! I cooked some Laura’s Lean beef because my husband wanted tacos and then I made myself a taco salad in the process!

  • 2-3 cups romaine lettuce
  • 1/2 cup cooked Laura’s Lean beef mixed with taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup black beans, heated up
  • 1 cup tri-colored peppers and onion mix (cooked in microwave)
  • 2 tbsp whipped 1% cottage cheese
  • 2 tbsp mild green taco sauce

My only regret is forgetting that I have some guacamole in the freezer! I told my husband to remind me of this next time we have ‘tacos’ ๐Ÿ™‚

Tuesday is our new volleyball night and we played for about an hour and a half; others were anxious to get back home to see if their power was back on, I think we were the only ones who had been restored!

When we got back home, I was hungry, so I made myself a smoothie with 3/4 cup soymilk, 1/2 banana and 1/2 packet of Jay Robb’s chocolate whey protein mix (it was okay, just not much chocolate flavor really). I may have to stick with CIB.

It tasted good but didn’t quite fill me the way I would’ve liked, so I had a serving of chocolate goldfish, did the trick ๐Ÿ™‚

Running start

Yesterday I had my first meeting with a work friend who runs a program for employees who want to meet and run during the work day. We did about 2.46 miles, stopping once to walk for 5 minutes (total 25 minutes, so we must’ve been running fast, for us!). It was intense and sweaty, but so great! I’m glad to have a partner to hold me accountable at least once a week, hopefully we’ll work out time to meet more.

I started things off with a smoothie (1 cup mixed berries, 1 cup soymilk and Whole Foods vanilla soy protein powder packet):

I also had two poached eggs for some extra protein!

Mid-morning, I had a cup of coffee with Silk original creamer and a snack of honey roasted peanuts and then went for our run. When I got back, and after chugging tons of water, I had some vaccuum packed salmon mixed with 1 tbsp cottage cheese (good replacement for mayo!) on Wasa crackers with carrots & an orange:

On the way home I had a diet dr. pepper…I had gone to the store because I had thought I was hungry but I talked myself out of it and settled on this ๐Ÿ™‚

Dinner was a repeat last night…salad with sunflower kernels, raisins and dressing…two veggie burgers with 2 slices of mozzarella veggie cheese and ketchup.

We played volleyball for 2 hours last night and when I returned home, I ate a cup of celery with 1 tbsp of peanut butter, then proceeded to do the dishes, clean the entire kitchen (including mopping!) and start a load of laundry. I don’t know where the energy came from, but I slept good last night, haha.

No Blizzard?!?

Last night when we got done with volleyball — which we play almost every Thursday night for at least 2 hours — we were both so tired and not in the mood that we completely bailed on the Blizzards…I feel really bad because I did want to help the charity but perhaps I will just make a donation directly? It was really strange because my husband never turns down a Blizzard and is usually the one running after the ice cream truck! ๐Ÿ™‚

Post-volleyball, Courtney’s banana pudding leftovers, yum-o!

Hot cocoa, drank while watching “Tori & Dean” on my DVR…

I stayed up way too late last night but even though my body was tired from all the exercise, my mind was so alert! I got a lot done that I usually do in the morning so I was able to sleep in a bit later today ๐Ÿ™‚
