How are you on this fine Friday? I am so glad the week is over and I have a lot of fun stuff planned for the weekend. Hope you do too ๐Ÿ™‚

This morning before my 3 mile run, I snacked on a mini coconut Larabar and some cherries. This proved a perfect snack, which I will have to remember because I often strike out with these. I’m either too full or still hungry by the time I run, but this worked perfectly.


For lunch, I had one of my weekly favorites…black beans on top ofย  a sweet potato (this one was HUGE) and another Musselman’s applesauce on the side.


It was so good that it took me about 3 and a half hours before I dug into my afternoon snack. I probably could’ve made it even longer if it hadn’t been what it was and I had been looking forward to it all day.



Vanilla Chobani with Kashi Summer Berry granola…heaven. I swear, the first bite I took I could almost hear a choir of angels. Ok, so maybe it wasn’t that good but it was very close!

For dinner, we decided to go to Johnny V’sย a place we had never been too before, except for when it was a different restaurant in that same location! My husband is a big fan of pizza if you haven’t noticed, so I oblige every now and again.

For starters, I had a garden salad with honey mustard dressing on the side.


I ate one of the croutons and decided they weren’t that good and pushed them to the side along with about half of the cheese. I did like the inclusion of banana peppers and olives though, it was better than a traditional garden salad. I only used maybe half of one of the dressing cups. I like to dip my fork in as opposed to pouring it on top.

Josh ordered the garlic knots because we had a coupon for a free appetizer. I ended up eating three of the smaller ones and we still took some home with us!


For my “main” dish, I had a slice of the cheese pizza. I liked it because it was thin crust, but it would’ve been better if it were thin and crispy, real New York style. I’ve been spoiled I guess ๐Ÿ˜‰


Everything was good and I left satisfied and not too full like what sometimes happens on weekends. The best part is that with tip and all, we spent $14.00 thanks to ordering water and the free appetizer coupon. Sweet!

Hope you all are having a great night too. I’m off to contemplate dessert/snack (last night it ended up being Fruity Pebbles with milk, don’t worry, it was a small cup and worked like a charm) and hopefully watch “Made of Honor” with Josh, haha. He gets pizza, I get the chick flick.

Somewhere along the way on my drive home, I got to thinking about dinner. I stopped at Fresh Market to get some yogurt because I haven’t had any in forever (like a week!) and I wanted to have some tomorrow most definitely, no exceptions!

I got to explain to a lady shopping there the benefits of Greek yogurt (she saw me pick it up and asked me about it)ย which made my day. She left with a container of strawberry and blueberry Chobani ๐Ÿ˜‰ I left with plain and vanilla Chobani, plus a new Stonyfield that I can’t wait to try later.

Anyway, while I was there I saw orange juice, which made me think of breakfast, which made me think of eggs and I decided eggs, toast and orange juice would be great for dinner tonight!

My inner critic, voice, what have you, kept telling me no, I need to have a sweet potato with some beans and maybe another vegetable, but why? I’ve had plenty of veggies today, from my green smoothie this morning to my falafel burger, veggies and hummus at lunch. So I finally shut her up and went for it!


I topped my eggs (two, scrambled)ย with some shredded Mexican cheese and organic ketchup (which is the way to go to avoid HFCS) and my toast with some butter and grape fruit spread (whole fruit, not jelly). I had a cup of orange juice fortified with calcium ๐Ÿ™‚


It was delicious and I’m so glad I honored my cravings and didn’t go by what I thought I had to eat for dinner. I’m very happy right now. My only dilemma…what’s for dessert? I will just have to see where the mood takes me.

I’m on Day 3 with no ice cream and sadly (?) I don’t really miss it. That just goes to show you, I was in a rut.

Off to play Guitar Hero Metallica with Josh. Have a good night everyone!

Birthday dinner & Challenge day 3

Thanks everyone for the lovely birthday wishes ๐Ÿ™‚ I had a great time all day yesterday and I still get to do it once more this weekend with my best girlfriends, its going to be a blast!

I am also happy to report that I have not counted a single calorie in three whole days! I have tried to in the back of my mind but every time I start, I tell myself no and I’m able to shut off that voice in my head. I’m also having a lot of fun learning to be intuitive.

Day 3 started off with a green monster and a small cup of high fiber flax cereal. I made the smoothie with kale this time andย 1 cup of Almond Breeze plus a banana. I’m sorry to say that either the banana was not ripe enough or the kale was just too bitter, because it wasn’t that great to me. I was able to drink it and it kept me full for a while and I definitely felt good getting the health benefits, but I probably wouldn’t make this one again ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Like my new glass?! I found this at Kroger for $1.25. I originally got it for parfaits but it works for GM’s too ๐Ÿ™‚

Since it was my birthday, I treated myself to a Heine Brothers coffee at work with skim milk. And mid-morning I had some honey roasted peanuts. Before I was supposed to leave to meet Farrah for a run, I had an orange because I wasn’t hungry but I felt a little weak and knew it would be a couple hours until lunch. Worked like a charm!

We warmed up for 3 minutes on the treadmill (stupid rain!) and then ran for 15, including a sprint (for me) at the last minute at 6.5 mph. We did almost 2 miles and it felt really good to run and stretch afterwards. I’m liking this training program and the fact that we’re focusing more on short distances,ย  I definitely made the right decision on that.

For lunch,ย I had a Boca veggie burger with organic American cheese on a whole wheat English muffin with spicy mustard and tomato. Plus some carrots, cucumbers and another flavor of Sonny & Joe’s hummus (review coming soon). I’m loving the fresh veggies still!

I ate lunch pretty late (for me) and I was pretty hungry when I did eat, so I didn’t feel 100% full when I got done. I contemplated making a trip upstairs to the vending machine for some chocolate, even had money in my pocket heading up there, then I talked to myself (haha) and realized I didn’t really want that.

I had some water and tea, then about an hour later, I had a strawberry Chobani with about 1/4 cup of Kashi Summer Berry granola. Yummy snack alert!

For dinner, my husband, parents and I went to Cafe 360 located in the Highlands neighborhood of Louisville, which to me has some of the best food in the city. This place is also a hookah lounge, but we did not partake. I have to say, as a person who hates smoke, the other people in the restaurant with hookahs, did not disturb us at all.

We ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer. It was different than others we’d had before. The one on the left was smeared with some sort of mushroom pate and the one on the right was some kind of herb cheese that sort of reminded me of benedictine spread. I had a couple bites of each kind just to try it. It was good but I don’t think I would get it again unless someone else wanted it. They have many other apps on the menu!


Speaking of which, they are remodeling their kitchen right now so the menu was limited. A lot of the stuff I had checked out ahead of time wasn’t on there but I managed to find something that sounded pretty good…the vegetarian club. All sandwiches come with either fries or potato salad, so I opted for the latter.


I killed the potato salad, but only ate half the sandwich (saving room for dessert) which is cool because now I have lunch for another day this week!

The verdict: I would love to try this place again, hopefully with a bigger menu. The wait staff was very helpful and friendly, answering many of our questions about the menu items. I wasn’t too impressed with the veggie club, it was basically a club sandwich without the meat, but the potato salad was fantastic. I will try something different the next time. The prices cannot be beat either, I think my whole meal was $4.99? Its insane how inexpensive this place is, I love it.

For dessert, we went to one of my favorite frozen yogurt places, Ce Fiore!

I got the single Green Tea with M&M’s, kiwi and blueberries. Perfection in a cup.


Their frozen yogurt is not what you usually expect, its very much yogurt, so therefore it tastes like frozen actual yogurt, not really sweet like ice cream. My mom didn’t know what to think at first, but it grew on her. My husband tried a sample and hated it, as it usually goes with things I really like (that are healthy). Geez.

But I happen to love it! I think a small is 90 and then you just add the toppings (not that I’m counting). The Green Tea flavor is my favorite, but I really like them all. I can’t wait to go back there again a few times this summer ๐Ÿ™‚

I went home and sat on the couch with the dog and watched “The Business of Being Born” on Showtime. It was very interesting, I got instantly hooked! I didn’t realize just how much goes into having a baby in a hospital vs. at home. While viewing, I had a couple of spoons of The Bee’s Knees with a Coke Zero. Hey, it was my birthday ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Fresh Market

For some reason, I always forget that I have a Fresh Market store near me. In fact, it is so close, that I could walk there (its somewhere between 1-2 miles away). Hmm…

On Thursday, I had a little time to kill before I met my friend for dinner. And since I am a self-professed foodie now, I spend most of my free time walking around grocery stores or the grocery section of stores like Target and Walmart!

I thought of Fresh Market because I hadn’t been there in a while and I’d heard they had Barney Butter, which is huge on the blogs these days. My parents go there every so often because they have pre-made foods like stuffed chicken breasts and chopped veggies, that are easy to throw in the oven or on the grill and include the directions!

I had avoided it because I had this impression in my mind that it was more expensive than Whole Foods or the other places I shopped. I was so wrong! At least with most of the products anyway. Some things there were more, but not by much.

Here’s what I walked out with:


I had remembered reading about Ryvita crackers on another blog and wouldn’t you know…this whole box was only $1.83! Cheaper than my normal Wasa. I’m excited to try these!

And, oh my gosh, I found The Bee’s Knees from Peanut Butter & Co! I have wanted to try this one for a while after hearing a good testimony from a friend of mine. You can find this one at my Whole Foods but its $5.99; this baby from Fresh Market was $4.49, woo hoo! Let’s hope it is what it claims to be ๐Ÿ˜‰


What’s this?! Honest Foods products?! Whoa…I still haven’t located the granola planks I’ve been searching for forever, but I did pick up these two whole grain country squares in Cran Lemon Zest and Apple Ginger Spice. While I’m really excited about these, there was a blank spot where Choco-Peanut Butter ones used to be ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Hopefully they’ll get restocked! These were $2.29 each, which is a big high, but I’ve wanted to try them for a while so we’ll see if its worth it!

And lastly, I’ve been craving hot cocoa at night and haven’t sat down to do some research on the healthiest kind yet (which I would want to be free of most artificial sweeteners and partially hydrogenated fats, which most boxed mixes have one or both) and I stumbled onto this little packet:


Ghirardelli Double chocolate hot cocoa powder…just needs to be mixed with 6 ounces (or 3/4 cup) of milk and you’re set. It does contain some funky ingredients, but not partially hydrogenated, aspartame or sucralose, which are my big no-nos to myself. So I’ll give it a try!

I grazed through the milk and yogurt aisle and what did my eyes see?! My beloved Fage and CHOBANI! I have found Chobani at Meijer but it was only the peach and blueberry. Fresh Market was fully stocked with all flavors, so I will be going back to get some plain and vanilla, yes ๐Ÿ™‚ Their yogurt selection is pretty reasonable, about the same price-wise as Whole Foods, except Fage is about 10 cents more there.

I’m just glad because this place is actually more convenient to me than Whole Foods so I will be coming here to get my yogurt stash from now on I think.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed seeing my shopping experience, I sure enjoyed being there and I will definitely be going back soon! What a great excuse to get out for a walk and vice-versa.

Better mail those taxes

Tomorrow is April 15…have you mailed your taxes yet? We had to pay state this year, so I just mailed mine yesterday, bummer. I always remember tax day though because its my parents’ anniversary. They will be celebrating 35 years tomorrow, yay Mom and Dad ๐Ÿ™‚

Breakfast this morning was oats (made with coconut milk and water), with flax & pumpkin (and some cinnamon-instead of pumpkin pie spice-trying something new) stirred in, and topped with nuts and PB. It was fabulous, a little lighter of a portion than usual so I wouldn’t get too full for the gym and could eat a mid-morning snack. If you’ve noticed, I’m trying to get back to my 6 small meals a day to try it out for a while. I’m one of those people that gets bored or burnt out on a routine easily, so its good to change things up every now and then.


My workout was somewhat light today because I’m experiencing some soreness and pain in my hamstrings and glutes, the area right between them. And my inner left thigh. It hurts a little bit to walk, so I knew it would to run. I rode on the stationary bike for 20 minutes, which felt really good, then I did some ab work and upper body weight machines. I so plan on playing volleyball tonight, as long as my leg doesn’t feel as bad or worse by tonight.

For lunch, I haveย a Boca vegan burger, wheat bread (one piece, trying to make it last!), brussels sprouts and an orange. I wish I had some cheese! I didn’t buy any this weekend because I’m still waiting for Kraft 2% slices to go on sale ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

For snacks, I have a Chobani yogurt and a banana nut Pure Protein hot ‘n healthy oatmeal square that will most definitely be making a trip into the microwave.
