Happy Friday everyone! Whew, thank goodness it’s the weekend 😉 I can’t wait to get it started!
You are probably wondering about the title of this post.
After yesterday’s short bursts of walking challenge that led to me completing 99 minutes of walking in one day, I wondered how well I could do that with other aspects of fitness.
So today…I tried squats.
But first, for breakfast, I had a smoothie made with skim milk, a banana and a packet of this Jay Robb whey protein powder:
When I bought this, I had wanted to get the brown rice protein because I had seen it recommended by so many other bloggers, like Jess, but my Whole Foods only had this and the egg white protein.
Here’s how it looked after the blend!
I was not that impressed…this tasted mostly like banana and not very chocolatey at all – not like Carnation Instant Breakfast. Man, I wish this tasted like that or that CIB didn’t contain Splenda. Bummer.
Anyway, it still filled me up and got me going for the day. I just won’t buy that again. Not when I’m expecting chocolate anyway.
While I was in the shower, I did 10 squats. Then when I was brushing my teeth, I did 10 more!
Mid morning at work, I snacked on some Fage 2% with almond butter. Seriously good. Maybe better with peanut butter, but certainly not bad 😉
I also went back to drinking my coffee black today. I ran out of creamer a while ago and I’m coming down to the end of my milk stash with no plans to replace it (except for maybe some rice milk, I like to alternate). So I had it straight up, which is just fine by me. I’m one of those who likes the taste of coffee 🙂
At work, I set a goal – every time I go to the bathroom, I would do 10 squats. We have a semi-private restroom at work, so this was no problem. And since I drink water all day long, don’t you know, I did 60 squats at work!
For lunch, I had a smorgasbord of a chik’n patty with spicy mustard, carrots and cucumbers with cilantro hummus and a La Croix.
I also walked some today. I walked over a mile from the car, took both of my 15 minute breaks and got out for 30 minutes again at lunch time.
Mid afternoon, I drank some chamomile tea and ate a cheese snack.
But then I got hungry again, like majorly, so I took my second break and walked to the bookstore for a snack.
The choices were limited of course, but I got this bar because it only has 6 grams of sugar and contains 4g fiber and 6 protein! I also tried a new drink:
SoBe Lifewater 0 – Acai fruit punch. I think I’ve tried almost all of these now and this one if MY FAVORITE! I loved it. But I don’t want to drink these too much because, naturally sweetened or not, I don’t want my body to get hooked on sweet-tasting stuff again. But it worked for today.
On the way back to my car this afternoon, I took a longer way to the lot, which had me walk about a mile and a half.
So, in total, I’ve walked 101 minutes and so far, I’ve done 90 squats. I never changed my clothes, I never walked into a gym. I feel great! I’m going to do 10 more before the night is over…might as well hit an even 100 🙂
Chopped BBQ chicken with potato salad and green beans. It was good, especially for someone who doesn’t love BBQ, but I’m completely satisfied. I gave Josh my Texas toast.
I didn’t do it this time but Josh said something about me photographing his food to show how differently we eat from each other. Would you want to see that every once in a while? It would be interesting for some of you I’m sure. We are VERY different 🙂
Well, I’d better go, we’re about to watch “I Love You, Man” which Courtney has declared a classic. She and I have similar tastes, so I trust her. Hope you all have fun, good night!
p.s. I’m eating ice cream soon, just so you know 😉 Once it’s outta my house though, it’s on hiatus.
Hey party people! I’ve got two days worth of food and drink to show ya, so let’s get to it.
Tuesday morning, I had what I thought to be my favorite oatmeal combination (but honestly the banana and almond butter is winning out this week).
When I got to work, tragedy struck and we were out of coffee! How does that even happen?
Fortunately, we have a cafe upstairs where I got to not only satisfy my coffee needs but also support local business 🙂
Medium coffee with a splash of 2% milk.
Mid-morning, I snacked on some mixed nuts.
Lunch was a mixed grains salad with cucumbers, grape tomatoes, a Morningstar Farms Chik’n patty and some plain hummus.
I must also declare my undying love for La Croix. It’s like soda, only water, and without sodium, artificial sweeteners or anything nasty. I am in love you guys!
After lunch, I went over to the gym and did some strength training with Farrah. I’m not too sore today so I’m wondering if it’s not time to up the weights again?
Later in the afternoon, I snacked on some Fage 2% with peanut butter.
I love the 2%! It’s not that much different than the 0% but it’s just a tad bit creamier and slightly less bitter than it’s counterpart. Don’t be afraid of a little fat.
For dinner, I whipped up a quick turkey burger with avocado and organic ketchup and corn on the cob.
This was not as good as previous times I’ve had it…the burger was a bit dry (I think I cooked it too long) and the avocado wasn’t quite ripe yet. So it could’ve been better but it got the job done.
After dinner, I took Suzie to the park and met my friend Candy for a 2 mile walk. It was so nice and breezy out, I still can’t believe it’s August. It’s like Fall came early!
Dessert was a small cup of ice cream with two mini dark chocolate PB cups. I promise this is the last time you will see ice cream on here…at least for a while 😉
Today, I started out with the current favorite (it is constantly changing):
Luckily someone brought in their emergency stash of coffee today…tragedy avoided.
We had a party at work this morning, so I snacked on some veggies with salsa and 2 tbsp of mixed nuts.
After the party, I went on a 30 minute walk around campus. It was a bit warmer today but after tomorrow, we should be cooling off again, craziness.
Lunch was a can of vegetarian chili. I think I am going to have to lay off this for a while…ahem, too much fiber. Sorry if that is TMI 😉
About an hour after lunch, I went to my Exercise Science class which was totally interesting but I felt weak and sleepy. Sometimes when that happens, I know I need food (as opposed to caffeine) so I dug into my snack not long after I got back.
Not the best choice but I’m trying to use them up. It was good though and made me feel better almost instantly.
I snacked on some leftover tortilla chips before leaving work and also took another 15 minute walk outside 🙂
At Courtney’s, we started the night off with some vino!
Red or white? I’ll have a little bit of each, please.
Dinner was tomato pizza burgers on Arnold’s sandwich thins, with grilled zucchini and summer squash (which I made) and sweet potato fries. It was glorious 🙂
For dessert, we had carrot cupcakes. Now I know my previous post boasted on how I don’t eat desserts like this and stay low sugar and blah blah blah. Well, I’m also human and I believe in having things like this on occasion and you will notice that I don’t tomorrow, the day after and so on.
I did have ice cream two days this week, but I’m chalking that up to temporary illness, haha 😉
Check these babies out!
It was so good and the icing was superb! There were only three of us there tonight so I took the fourth one home to Josh since carrot cake is his favorite 🙂
Hope you all had a good night. See you tomorrow!
p.s. Check out Melinda’s awesome coupon giveaway…lots of organic products!
I was up bright and early this morning at 6 a.m. thanks to the doggie and my growling stomach 😉
When we came back from our walk, I made a nice warm bowl of oat bran with skim milk, peanut butter and blueberries!
After breakfast, I went upstairs in my newly clean and more organized second bedroom to do some yoga!
Erin let me in on the fact that Dave Farmar has free podcasts on iTunes, so I decided to subscribe and try out some Power Yoga for myself 🙂
It was NO JOKE. About 23 minutes in after several rounds of sun salutes and chatarungas, I had to turn it off and hang out in child’s pose for a bit. I decided to finish up with my own moves like tree pose, pigeon, and a few others to stretch out.
I think when I’m feeling a bit more energetic I will have to try for the full 60 but I’m glad I got to try it and for free!
Since I had breakfast so early, I was ready for a snack when church was starting. I ate one of these bars that I got for Josh but he didn’t like.
I had gotten away from eating bars for the most part because of their sugar content but this was more convenient since it was portable and I need to use them up anyway.
It tastes okay, actually not too sweet considering it has 13 grams of sugar. But I wouldn’t buy them again.
We had lunch with my parents today at Max & Erma’s. I ordered the black bean veggie burger which comes with guacamole on top and a side green salad with balsamic.
Sorry for another blurry phone pic!
I decided to forego the bun and just eat the patty which had both guac and pico de gallo! It was so spicy but totally awesome. I’d ordered this before but they made it extra good today. I also enjoyed that the side salad was not lame iceberg but truly green.
After lunch, I had two more of my new discovery:
I have to say, I cannot tell a huge difference between these and regular Reese’s mini peanut butter cups but I’m a fan of dark chocolate so it’s nice to try it in many different forms.
After my lunch dessert, I got to work on some house work, including cleaning out and organizing my bathroom cabinets. It feels so good to have more stuff in order, I hope this streak I’m on continues!
A couple hours later, I felt hungry, so I decided to finish off the container of Fage 0% topped with some Smucker’s Natural PB.
I can’t wait to try the 2% later this week, I love the 0, but I’m sure having just a little bit of fat makes a difference.
I took Suzie for a short walk and then started to get hungry for dinner. I knew I wanted to use some shrimp I had in the freezer, but I got creative with it too.
I started off by thawing out the shrimp (it’s already cooked) and then marinating it in some spicy garlic wing sauce (which is HFCS free, thank goodness).
Then I chopped up a tomato (from my mom’s boss’s garden!) and about 1/3 of a big green pepper I got at the store.
I used some wooden skewers we’ve had forever and made little kebabs, which I baked in the oven since our grill is currently out of gas 😦
I broiled them on high for 10 minutes, getting everything nice and warm and the veggies just slightly wilted.
I also made a side of broccoli that was leftover in the fridge.
Oh my gosh, so good!
This was really good and a lot more enjoyable than my last shrimp experiment. I’m glad I bought this bag of shrimp to experiment with but I think next time I’ll get a bag without tails just to make things easier 😉
I tried a new drink with dinner too. These were on sale for $1 at Whole Foods over the weekend!
Unsweetened green tea. Exactly what I wanted 🙂 Did you know tea is the 2nd most popular beverage, second only to water? The things you learn from reading labels…I love how there are no additives too.
Dessert #2 –
I’m off to do some more house work and probably catch an early bed time since I got my day started so early and have not taken a nap (unlike yesterday where I snoozed for 2 hours before going to Courtney’s).
Hope you all have had a great Sunday!
So I mentioned the other day that I was going to a yoga class and then running later on? Well, I did go to yoga and it was amazing!
I hadn’t realized how much I missed the group / class setting! Even though it was EXTREMELY crowded (first class of the summer) I really enjoyed myself and got some serious stretching and relaxation in my day which is always a good thing. The poses were pretty standard, lots of warriors and seated twists. One thing that was new to me that I really like was lying down tree pose. I love this one standing up and lying down was a whole different experience with the same pose! Ok, yoga nerd alert…
Later in the day, I actually did NOT go running but strength trained instead. I met my friend, who is a trainer, and she had us do THREE circuits of exercises this time. Remember last time how I felt weak and dizzy right in the middle of the second circuit? Happened again, only this time it was at the beginning of the third! I think what is happening is a culmination of heat (it gets really HOT in the gym), plus not drinking enough water, plus I need some sugar or electrolytes while I’m working out. So I’m going to do some experimenting and see how it goes. However, sitting down for a minute, drinking 2 cups of water and taking a few deep breaths gets me back up and running.
Afterwards, I had this and it helped me feel way better!
This was so tasty! I love these drinks because they aren’t real sugary and have mostly natural ingredients, which I’ve mentioned before when I tried other flavors. I have seen there is a zero calorie version but I have yet to try any of those. This entire bottle has 100 calories. I didn’t feel the need to eat a snack this time as I wasn’t hungry. Probably because I had a Fage + granola before my workout 🙂
Here’s most of what we did, I can’t remember it all…25 reps of each exercise!
3 minute warm up on treadmill (3.0 mph)
- Squats with bar behind head (mine was 9 lbs)
- Chest presses with bar
- Dips using weight bench
- Bicep curls with bar
- Shoulder presses with bar
- Tricep extensions with resistance band
- Bicep curls with resistance band
- Lateral raises (with 2.5 lb dumbbells, I was pooping out!)
- Bicep curls with 10 lb weights
- Chest flyes with 10 lb weights
- Tricep extensions with 1, 10 lb weight
- Ab twists with 4 lb medicine ball
- Step ups on weight bench (the part where I almost fainted)
- Stationary lunges holding 10 lb dumbbells (each leg)
- Ab v-crunches using 4 lb medicine ball
- Back extensions on the floor
- Bridges (for back)
- Bent over row using 9 lb weight bar
- Dead lifts with 10 lb dumbbells
- Reverse flyes with 5 lb dumbbells
- Another ab exercise I can’t come up with a name for, toe touches maybe?
Oh my gosh, writing that out made me want to almost pass out! My friend is crazy, but she’s a professional. I totally trust her. 🙂
Between circuits, we did 1 minute walking @ 3.0 on the treadmill and 1 minute of running at 6.0 (for me) before stepping off to start another round.
Today I did get to run…for 30 minutes! I’m so happy to have done it and I feel great, especially after stretching. I’m really looking forward to my next 5K which is next Saturday, oh my gosh! After this race, I’m going to start working on improving my speed, which is going to be fun (haha).
Hope you all are having a beautiful Thursday!
Now that I’ve got 4 days of not counting calories under my belt (no pun intended) I think this is going to be an easy habit to stick with. One thing that has been reassuring to me is that I have not gained any weight. In fact, before this challenge, I had creeped up just a bit and since I started being intuitive, I’ve started creeping back down. So I’m very happy with how this is going.
I plan to do a new challenge each week (or healthy behavior really) and I’m taking suggestions! I’m also curious, what are you guys hoping to change/add to your lifestyle this year?
I had quite an interesting day yesterday, unfortunately I just now replaced my camera batteries, so I don’t have much to show for it. 😦
Breakfast was a smoothie made with 1 cup almond breeze, 1 packet of Spirutein (chocolate peanut butter swirl) and one banana. I also had a small cup of flax cereal.
Midmorning I had a Fage 2% w/ Strawberry yogurt, which was so good and filling 🙂 I didn’t eat it until I was sure my breakfast had worn off and I didn’t eat lunch until I was ready either. This intuitive thing is working out well.
Lunch was leftovers from Tuesday night: baked tofu and asparagus, plus a toasted pita pocket (dry).
I had a workout scheduled at 3:00, so before I went I snacked on a cherry pie Larabar (thanks Alex) and headed to the gym. I put my friend, who is a personal trainer and all around kicker of butts, in charge of our workout and whew! I don’t know whether that’s good or bad…
Yesterday was a cross-training day for our 5K program and we decided on strength training. We began by warming up for 5 minutes on the treadmill (easy) and then went through this circuit (25 reps of each; all except squats, dips and core used 10 lb dumbbells):
- Chest presses
- Shoulder presses
- Bicep curls
- Dips on the bench
- Bent over row
- Rocking horse (abs)
- Back extensions on balance ball
Then we did two minutes on the treadmill (my heart was pounding!) and headed into our second circuit…
- Stationary (up/down) lunges holding 9 lb weight bar on shoulders (25 each leg)
- Vertical presses
- Dead lifts
- Reverse curls
- Upright rows
- Crunches (w/ legs at 90 degrees)
I’m sure I’m leaving something out! Somewhere in the middle of reverse curls, I got very weak and had to sit down in front of the fan with some water. I’ve never had this happen before so I’m not sure what it was exactly but it was quite startling. I’m glad I listened to my body and took a break. Luckily cooling off and fluids did the trick and I got back up and finished out all the exercises using lighter weights.
Even though that happened, I so want to do this workout again! I think I just need to fuel better. I am so sore today but its awesome, haha! I think next time I will take some fitness water or chews to keep my blood sugar from dropping because that is what it felt like. Or perhaps eat more protein before my workout. The Larabar just wasn’t it I guess?
Once we were done, I jumped on the stationary bike and rode easily for 30 minutes reading a magazine.
Afterwards, I was STARVING, so I went over to the store and grabbed a Kashi trail mix bar and some Sobe Lifewater in blackberry grape. I have to say, I really like this stuff and I think its appropriate for me because its mostly natural ingredients, doesn’t contain HFCS or artificial sweeteners like aspartame or sucralose, and the taste is great. Its not very sweet or jaw-locking like Gatorade and Powerade, which is good because those are so sweet it makes me sick. I’m not counting, but the entire bottle (which is a decent size) is 100 calories and contains vitamins. So I would definitely recommend it.
When I got home I had to walk the dog and then make dinner in a hurry so I could meet a friend at the mall to do some dress shopping! I had my leftover (from Wednesday) 1/2 vegetarian club sandwich and ended up picking half the cheese off because it was just too much. I also had a sweet potato with whipped butter and cinnamon.
For only having a couple of hours, we shopped our butts off! I can’t believe I was still standing after that workout. But I ended up coming home with THREE dresses! And some accessories. If you know me, you know I’ve never been a dressy person but losing 70+ pounds does a lot for your self confidence and sense of adventure. My friend bought one dress for me as a birthday gift which I plan to wear when we go out on Saturday night 🙂 Trying them on made me feel really good, being able to pick something off the rack. Major confidence boost.
When I finally got home, I did the dishes and had some delicious non-dairy “ice cream” with a drizzle of The Bee’s Knees on top. I cannot keep PB&Co in my house after this for a while, haha. I ended up having another spoonful and some chocolate goldfish too. But I went to bed with no regrets and no idea of the number of calories I ate that day 🙂
For some reason, I always forget that I have a Fresh Market store near me. In fact, it is so close, that I could walk there (its somewhere between 1-2 miles away). Hmm…
On Thursday, I had a little time to kill before I met my friend for dinner. And since I am a self-professed foodie now, I spend most of my free time walking around grocery stores or the grocery section of stores like Target and Walmart!
I thought of Fresh Market because I hadn’t been there in a while and I’d heard they had Barney Butter, which is huge on the blogs these days. My parents go there every so often because they have pre-made foods like stuffed chicken breasts and chopped veggies, that are easy to throw in the oven or on the grill and include the directions!
I had avoided it because I had this impression in my mind that it was more expensive than Whole Foods or the other places I shopped. I was so wrong! At least with most of the products anyway. Some things there were more, but not by much.
Here’s what I walked out with:
And, oh my gosh, I found The Bee’s Knees from Peanut Butter & Co! I have wanted to try this one for a while after hearing a good testimony from a friend of mine. You can find this one at my Whole Foods but its $5.99; this baby from Fresh Market was $4.49, woo hoo! Let’s hope it is what it claims to be 😉
What’s this?! Honest Foods products?! Whoa…I still haven’t located the granola planks I’ve been searching for forever, but I did pick up these two whole grain country squares in Cran Lemon Zest and Apple Ginger Spice. While I’m really excited about these, there was a blank spot where Choco-Peanut Butter ones used to be 😦 Hopefully they’ll get restocked! These were $2.29 each, which is a big high, but I’ve wanted to try them for a while so we’ll see if its worth it!
And lastly, I’ve been craving hot cocoa at night and haven’t sat down to do some research on the healthiest kind yet (which I would want to be free of most artificial sweeteners and partially hydrogenated fats, which most boxed mixes have one or both) and I stumbled onto this little packet:
Ghirardelli Double chocolate hot cocoa powder…just needs to be mixed with 6 ounces (or 3/4 cup) of milk and you’re set. It does contain some funky ingredients, but not partially hydrogenated, aspartame or sucralose, which are my big no-nos to myself. So I’ll give it a try!
I grazed through the milk and yogurt aisle and what did my eyes see?! My beloved Fage and CHOBANI! I have found Chobani at Meijer but it was only the peach and blueberry. Fresh Market was fully stocked with all flavors, so I will be going back to get some plain and vanilla, yes 🙂 Their yogurt selection is pretty reasonable, about the same price-wise as Whole Foods, except Fage is about 10 cents more there.
I’m just glad because this place is actually more convenient to me than Whole Foods so I will be coming here to get my yogurt stash from now on I think.
Well, I hope you all enjoyed seeing my shopping experience, I sure enjoyed being there and I will definitely be going back soon! What a great excuse to get out for a walk and vice-versa.
Stay tuned for a mini-marathon recap coming soon…
Now that I have your attention…
I keep checking my blog stats and the biggest search that lands people here to See Sarah Eat is Ryan Reynolds! All from my post on my top five hotties. Who would know this is a food blog? 😉
Everything went pretty well yesterday eating wise, especially during the day. My oat bran held me over until after 11 a.m., when I decided to go ahead and eat my snack before stress management class. We are learning some really great relaxation techniques and I’m glad to report that my “mood dot” finally started turning colors! It got all the way green (which means relaxed but busy) before I headed back to work where it went completely black (stressed or hands are really cold). So I think that’s progress 🙂
Lunch was later than usual, which is good for Wednesdaysbecause I have dinner with the girls so late (when did 7:00 become late? how old am I?). I ate my Fage around 4:15 and that held me all the way until dinnertime. I love that stuff. I can’t wait to get more hopefully this weekend.
I made black bean soup for the first time ever yesterday, which I couldn’t believe I had never made it before. I used this recipefrom allrecipes.com as a base but I made several adjustments to fit my own style and what I had on hand at home.
I started off by sauteing some tri-pepper and onion mix, 1 large carrot (chopped), and 3 cloves (1.5 tsps) of minced garlic in 1 tbsp olive oil in a large pan. Or is it a pot? I never did know the difference…
Then I added 1 can of organic black beans and 1 (14-15 oz) can of low sodium vegetable broth to the pan, while I pureed the other can of black beans in my blender…
Ew, I hate it when all the sodium rises to the top and “foams” like that. Ew, ew. Luckily it didn’t stay. I need to make this with dry beans next time!
I added 1/4 tsp ground cumin and a few shakes of black pepper and chili powder, stirred it up and simmered for 20 minutes (after first bringing it to a boil). After that it went into my mini-crockpot and off to Courtney’s 🙂 This recipe made exactly four servings (one bowl each person). You will see from the recipe, I omitted several things so that is why the servings came out smaller.
I ended up walking the dog while the soup simmered, but I did get in two sets of planks and side planks, plus some bicep curls + shoulder presses and tricep extensions with the 5 lb weights I had at home. I also did squats for 1 minute, which came out to 30 but my knees were making weird noises so I decided to stop at one set. My thighs are feeling it today! My abs are sore but not like before so I think its time to step it up! I got a 15 minute walk in at work, plus a few shorter ones going back and forth to places on my break.
On to dinner…
Margie brought some veggies as a side, which is good because I lacked them somewhat yesterday, so I think I caught up after dinner!
2% cheddar cheese and fat free sour cream on the soup; 1/2 portabello mushroom, squash, asparagus and onion on the side. I didn’t finish the mushroom or half the asparagus.
I also spoiled myself a little bit with these (like times ten probably):
And for dessert, we had Courtney’s banana pudding (girl, I think the skim milk made this taste even BETTER) and Aleta (a new member of the Wednesday night crew?) brought a really good cake, I’m not sure what kind but it was sort of like strawberry shortcake and the icing was whipped which was really tasty.
I ended up going back for seconds on both desserts! I knew I had overdone it but I wasn’t uncomfortably stuffed or anything and I drank lots of water with this. I think I was tired and somewhat stressed about the final I was working on all night while I was there (sorry girls). But I’m finished now, so life can start getting back to normal again 🙂
Hope everyone had a good night!
Feels like I hadn’t had oats in forever! Well, today I actually had oat bran, but still. It was 37 degrees (!) when I got up this morning so I knew a warm bowl of something great was in order!
This bowl contained…
- 1/3 cup oat bran
- 1/2 cup 1% milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup Libby’s canned pumpkin (because no other kind will do)
- 2 tsp milled flax
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie seasoning
- Topping: 1 tbsp pecans, 1 tbsp Naturally More peanut butter
The Naturally More is so good! I think its quickly becoming a favorite. What I like about it, besides the taste and texture, is that its lower in calories/sugar than regular peanut butter and it contains more protein and Omega-3’s which are good for me trying to raise my HDL. I can’t wait to go back to the doctor later this year to see if my efforts have paid off 🙂
Its also satisfying enough to have 1 tbsp, whereas sweet ones like Peanut Butter & Co have me running toward the jar with a spoon! Boy, I sure do miss that White Chocolate Wonderful though. I still can’t believe I have a jar of Nutella in my house and no desire to eat it in mass quantities like before. I’ve changed?!
Lunch and Snacks
Lunch today is some leftovers: chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans), the other 1/2 of my sweet potato (with sour cream) and an orange. Oh and a pita pocket 😉
Snacks are an apple + cheese stick and a miracle Fage 2% with peachiness…
Tonight is girl’s night potluck and I’m excited because I will be making Black Bean Soup for the first time! I found a good recipe but I’m making my own modifications to put my own personal spin on it. I can’t wait to see how it turns out. I get pretty lucky with soup recipes most of the time so I’m confident it will be good. Courtney is making her famous banana pudding tonight, so I can’t wait for that as well!
I don’t really have anything on the exercise agenda for today mostly due to lack of time. At lunch, I’m going to a stress management class, which has been really relaxing. It has taught me deep breathing, how to have a “vacation” in your mind, and just in general relaxation techniques.
The best part is the envisioning your ideal life. I’ve really been able to take hold of this and I’m starting to see what I want to do with my life, which has been really eye-opening. I love it so far and can’t wait to see what else we learn!
I wore tennis shoes to work today on purpose, so I’m thinking I’ll get in a few short walks over the course of the day to add up to 30 minutes or so hopefully. Then, I plan to do some planks or other strength moves while my soup is simmering later. You can fit it in guys, no excuses! 😉
I haven’t talked about weight on here in a while, mostly because I’m concentrating on maintaining and toning up my body, plus relaxing more and de-stressing my worn out body. I’m not running as hard as I was because it was really starting to take its toll and I’m making a good effort to go to bed earlier or set the alarm for later when I can.
I’ve also started planning my meals out in advance, to save time in the morning and to make sure I’m getting all the necessary food groups and nutrients each day as best I can.
Its paying off because today I weighed in at 147, which is the lowest its been in quite a while. It was cool to see but that number alone does not equal my happiness (nor should it yours), it was just an added bonus of what I’ve already been feeling, which is rejuvenated, healthy and energetic!
Have a great Wednesday blog friends, thanks for the support.
I ate my Fage 2% with strawberry around 2:09 yesterday afternoon and I didn’t eat dinner until 7:00 when I got home from class! In between, no mini-Larabar required (has now moved to my purse emergency stash) probably because of the awesomeness and protein in the greek yogurt and the fact that I was busy doing group work and review for the final in my last Epidemiology class. I’m so glad this semester is nearly over!
Speaking of dinner, I made my old Monday standard that I hadn’t had in a few weeks…beans and rice!
Garbanzo beans (chickpeas), brown rice and a little Sriracha 🙂
With some 1% cow’s milk.
While I don’t necessarily believe in 3 servings of dairy per day, I do believe in calcium and vitamin D, so I helped myself out with this one. But I also take a supplement. I like to alternate my milks bi-weekly or monthly, from skim or 1% dairy, to soy milk, coconut milk or another milk alternative. I like the health benefits of them all and don’t necessarily feel that I prefer one over the other. Plus it keeps me (and my body) guessing!
For dessert, I had some juicy grapes, these are so good, almost gone! Luckily they are on sale for 99 cents/lb this week, gotta get some more 🙂
I also had three pieces of dark chocolate with some sugar cookie sleigh ride tea while watching “24” and studying for my anatomy final. Then I hit the hay promptly at 10:00!
Hope everyone survived Monday, I’m really looking forward to the weekend, already 😉
After my lunchtime workout, I was reminiscing on how much I miss yoga. I’ve used the Yoga downloads, videos and improvised on my own for a while now. But something about being in a class, away from everything (like distractions), with an instructor there to literally adjust you if you need help; there’s just nothing quite like it.
So, my goal for the next month or so is to do some research and find a yoga studio! I’ve taken classes here or there around the city but I would like to find a place that I could go to repeatedly. We have classes here at work, which I like, but I have to wait and see what their schedule is going to be for the summer.
I already know the gym is going to start opening later, so that is going to nix my early morning gym workouts. The cool thing is that its Spring and eventually Summer and I’m thinking about trying to work out some at home morning workouts, including outdoors! 🙂
Anyway, just got back from my lunchtime workout…I did 30 minutes walking on the treadmill, conquering 2 miles at various inclines along the way. I do very well at moderate inclines like 5.0-7.0% but when we start getting closer to the double digits, I have to use the handrails! Since I used the inclines, I think I probably burned close to 200 calories in this workout.
I was so excited to do planks today! That sounds crazy, especially coming from me because I used to hate them. I was breathing heavy and shaking the whole time, but I managed to get through 2 sets of 1-minute regular planks and 30 second side planks (on each side). My heart was thumping in my chest when I got done so I know that by itself is a good workout. I’m interested to see how sore my abs and arms are tomorrow, if its anything like the last time 😉
Nope, that’s not me, haha…but I did that!
Lunch was awesome! Now that I have tried a hummus wrap, I can see it becoming a regular part of my lunch rotation. I don’t know what I was so afraid of…I guess I thought it wouldn’t fill me up or hold me over very well, but I was way wrong, especially paired with the spinach. I think I would try it as a sandwich too sometime. There are just so many varieties and flavors of hummus that possibilities could be endless!
I have a refreshing Fage yogurt to look forward to this afternoon and then its off to class, the last one! Next semester it will be Tuesday nights, so I’m hoping that will be easier than Monday, right?!
Hope you are enjoying your day. It’s been raining here but the Sun managed to pop out for a few minutes 🙂
